restricting contrast (inf)
a.k.a.
a subtype of counterpresuppositional contrast in which the sentence rejects a component of a prior assertion by excluding part of the rejected component rather than simply replacing it. Example: in the exchange John bought apples and peaches. No, he only bought PEACHES, the speaker rejects that what John bought was both apples and peaches, and restricts what John bought to just peaches. Only is a restrictive focus operator.
